Here at Fire

           Light

Laser, we can engrave and create *almost* anything.

We recently made a set of plaques displaying a company’s core values. That company is Core Collision. Here’s how we did it.

The first plaque we made was the “First Dollar” plaque.

We used a carbon fiber print piano-finish plaque as the base. We made 2 full color plates - one with the logo and another with text.

In the middle we used a laser-cut piece of acrylic sheet to hold the dollar against the plaque and screws to mount the acrylic.

That led to discussions on how to capture Core’s 4 core values for customers to see in their Georgetown lobby.

The 4 values plaques were made using an 18x24” black piano finish plaque. We reverse-engraved the logo and text on sheets of clear acrylic and added red for the logo. The acrylic sheets mount to the plaques with sign standoffs.

The title plaque that spans all 4 values plaques is a board wrapped in black carbon fiber vinyl. We put the logo and slogan into 2 separate acrylic pieces and mounted with standoffs.

Next came the installation - difficult to get 4 plaques level, even vertically and equally spaced. But we got it!

The owner was so impressed he ordered another set of plaques for their Kyle office.

Needless to say, the second set was much easier.

And we learned a better way to hang everything on the wall and retrofitted the Georgetown store.

What is sublimation?

  This is sublimation:

You remember from science class. Changes in states of matter. Ice to water to steam.
Somehow in the freezer, ice cubes and ice cream get past the liquid state.

We use sublimation for several reasons but mainly to make things in full color.
Above we had a name badge.
We print the image reversed with special paper and ink, then put the white badge blank over the print.
They go into a heat press that (through sublimation) drives the ink from the paper into the badge surface.
You can see the indented outline of the badge and the faded ink.
Magic!
or Science?
